In answer to a comment I received

I received a comment in regards to Prop 8 and I would like to address this comment since I feel this person(whether they read this or not)deserves an answer from me. The following is their comment italized.

Stop the Hate said...
Protect Marriage:- Outlaw Divorce- Outlaw Single Parents- Outlaw the barren couple- Outlaw the couple past child-bearing yearsVote Yes on 8: Make me suffer for a god, a bible, a fairytale religion I do not believe in - take my marriage license from me and expect me to say 'thank you'

This whole issue is very hot right now and a lot of people feel that they have the right to be happy with whom ever they choose to be with. This is very true. They also feel they have the right to be married to each other, and if they can find someone that will marry them, then again, that's their right. My issue is when this group of people start insisting that the government step in and insist that ALL religions be willing to marry this couple whether they believe in this lifestyle or not. This is when the line has been crossed between your freedom of religion and mine.

My faith(LDS) clearly is against this lifestyle. We do not hate the people living the lifestyle, we just don't condone their actions. Then when the government starts making churches do this and if not a lawsuit arises, that is just plain wrong. This country was founded on religious freedom and to make another religion accept your lifestyle that is contrary to their belief if stepping out of line. This is what Prop 8 is addressing. It's letting the government know that they are making laws that are unconstitutional. And we as a Christian faith are joining other Christians in stating we will NOT tolerate this kind of attitude.

I'm guessing this person who commented does not believe in God. That's ok. I'm not sure if I answered the question or whatever, but this is my belief. And I did try to contact this person through their blog, but apparently they only registed enough to be able to make a comment since I found no blog. Anyway, these are my opinions.

Thank you Karie, good blog. I would also like to stop the hate. I feel that many hate me now because of my religion and the fact that I want to be able to practice it without being forced to participate in gay ceremonies which would certainly be the eventual outcome.

Thanks Dana.

I think you made the big points. Also note that the Pledge of Allegiance has the words "One nation, under God". What is our nation under? That's right, God. I don't mind if you don't believe in a God, but don't force the rest of America to understand and agree with you, since you are the ones that are causing our country to get screwed up right now.

In the state I live in we are also voting on a similar proposition. I find that many people who are against this proposition say that the government should not be in personal relationships. Then I ask them if they support polygamy and the right for them to marry as many people as they want to. It is very interesting how many of them say absolutely not. If the stance is that everyone should be able to marry who they want, than polygamy should be able to get married too.

Karie you did a good job with your answer. Already people have been sued that don't agree with gay marriage. Unfournatley the hate is on both sides to say other wise is being blind. Those that support prop 8 and those against it have people that have shown behavior that is uncalled for. I don't hate gays I disagree with their lifestyle and feel that I should have a right to say it without fear of being fined or sued.

I loved your response! I am not of the same faith as you but I agree with you 100% on your response!! They are crossing the line when our churches HAVE to accept them but they don't have to accept us or our beliefs. Thanks for having the courage to answer that comment..it took more guts than I would have had. :)

By the way...I LOVE your new layout!

Blessings,
Vania

p.s. THanks for all the love and support you are giving me! I'm glad your my friend! :) {HUGS}

Jads mom,

Thanks for the support. I have nothing against the gay community, other than when they start pushing their lifestyle on me and my community. I also got to thinking later on if they want to get married, form their own church and have their own leaders do the ceremony. The country was founded on religious freedom.

And thanks for the compliment of the new layout. I liked it, but as I was reading the directions on how to add it, it said you have to use Fire Fox. I'm not a firefox user. Thankfully my ds is and was able to help me.

I'm glad I'm your friend also! :)

Well said. Dh and I were talking about what was said about it in priesthood meeting. I told him the same thing you did, and pointed out that a lot of churches may lose their tax exempt status if this goes through. The other situation is that if enough churches leave the state of California, it will place an even bigger burden on the taxpayers, since many charities are religious in nature, even if they are privately funded.

You said it very well.

Thank you Momo. I think this Prop is a long way overdue. I think we need to let these other groups realize that we all have freedom, but when another group tries forcing the government to make rules that will only benefit the minority, that is where things are getting out of control. BTW Momo I tried responding to your link, but it wouldn't take me anywhere.
